The Reach Climbing Wall, Woolwich

With so many different routes from easy to extremely hard there is enough entertainment and activity to please not only the kids but also the adults!

The Reach are running lots of extra climbing sessions throughout the school holidays as well as long, 5 hour sessions on certain dates.

More information can be found here.

We are an active family and we climb a lot, primarily in Kent or North London. We tried out The Reach climbing wall in Woolwich for the first time this weekend. It was absolutely fantastic!

The staff at the wall are wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were obviously there to help at all times. They have school holiday sessions, 5 hours of supervised climbing for just £40 which I fully intend to send my son this half term! On top of all this, they do kids parties – £100 per 8 kids for a 1.5 hour climbing party with qualified instructors. Not only was the climbing good, but the cafe too. It’s set up high so adults can sit and watch their kids climb over the balcony whilst they are instructed to become the next spiderman! They serve coffees, cakes and light lunches – perfect for this type of outing. There are changing facilities and the toilets were clean and hygienic.

I have since become a member and go almost every week! Hope to see you all there!

If you are a climber already, know how to use a belay system, can tie knots and put yourself into a harness with no help, then you can register (a one off fee of £5) and climb whenever you want to for a reduced rate. There is a huge bouldering section upstairs for those who like to boulder without ropes, rather than climb. If you want to climb with the kids instead of just belay them, there are a number of automatic belay devices on the routes so you can race up the wall and the machine catches you when you fall!

If you aren’t a climber already, there are a number of great activities for you and your kids. The best one, in my opinion, is the ‘young climber’ sessions that they do – these run every Saturday and Sunday (times shown on the website) and they are only £8.50 per child! That gives them an hour and a half of supervised climbing with an instructor with a group of kids under 18 years of age. During the holidays it is recommended that you book onto these sessions as they are very popular!
