‘Swanley Town Councils’ jewel in the crown. Traditional town park set in 60 acres of landscaped parkland’ (www.swanleypark.co.uk). Lovely little park with a fabulous mini steam train for children.
MUMMY’S GIN FUND SAYS:
This a new discovery for us but since we found it, we have been there EVERY weekend. It’s easy to get to down the A20 and then past Ruxley Manor Garden Centre. Our son, who is 2 and train mad, just loves going on the “choo choo” and could not believe when we got to ride on the steam engine which actually goes choo choo! The young volunteers who run it are really passionate and are happy for the kids to look at the engine and taught Jack all about the little fire and how that powers the train. It’s so cute! And it’s only £4 round trip for a family of 4! Great morning or afternoon out.
Address: Swanley Park, New Barn Road, Swanley, Kent, BR8 7PW.
Playground: Yes, a good selection of climbing apparatus for toddlers as well as an area for older children.
Cafe: Quite a good cafe. Not very new but great selection of food including hot dishes and to my memory reasonable priced.
Toilets: Tucked in away in a little hut behind the bouncy castle.
Pram / wheelchair / mobility friendly: Yes.
Parking: 2 large car parks. My advice is park at the one further away from lake so you can get train to the playground and then again on a return trip back to the car.
Nearest Station: Swanley.
Email: [email protected].
Besides the playground there is also a paddling pool with splash park in summer, small children’s play area and sandpit, bouncy castle, battery cars/bikes and boating lake with pedal boats, rowing boats and canoes. But the real draw is a little miniature public railway with both steam and diesel locomotives. THE RAILWAY IS CLOSED FROM NOVEMBER UNTIL APRIL.
